J.Crew Fall 2012

I got the new J.Crew Fall Catalog in the mail last night and WOW!

I love how they're not afraid of bright colors even in the Fall and Winter. I think the key is their pieces are very tailored so the color doesn't overwhelm yet makes a statement.

Here are my top picks for Fall: (Links below)

J.crew always has nice embellished silk tanks. The Sparkle Row Cami would pair nicely with the Stovepipe Trouser in Wool Flannel (how fantastic that a work pant comes in a pretty green hue). Every woman should have a versatile dress. If you already own one in black may I suggest a tailored number in a color you love. Purple is a great hue on most ladies and this Wool Crepe Dress could be layered with a blazer or funky jewelry to wear to work or a date. I mainly turn to J.Crew for colorful staples like this hot pink Lady Day Coat or the Midrise Toothpick Cord (finally someone makes a pair of cords that don't show your bottom) that come in a variety of colors. There are times that J.Crew makes such a lovely statement piece I can't resist. Enter the Herringbone Excursion Quilted Vest and the Jeweled Sweatshirt - both pieces would look smashing on the weekend and elevate your casual wardrobe to chic and still comfortable. For those with a large shopping budget there is the J.Crew Collection - these items are beautiful and unique but sadly out of my price-range. I particularly love the Golden Paisley Blouse

J.Crew makes some quality accessories but you're going to pay for that quality (unless you can hit an amazing sale). I swoon over the Lulu Frost Collection for J.Crew - this statement necklace is killer! If you're going to invest in a pair of flats for Fall I suggest the gold-heeled Janey Flat - what wouldn't they go with? As mentioned in previous posts my favorite colors for Fall are cobalt blue and burgundy - The Edie Purse and Cashmere-Lined Leather Gloves are so luxe! Another great staple for your jewelry box is the pave gold bracelet - it's sophisticated yet bold. I love the idea of a flat bootie - weekends beg for a shoe that can be walked in and the Emmett Ankle Boot delivers. J.Crew does have some great sales and currently you can score this animal print silk scarf for a fraction of the price.

Happy Shopping!

I'm Reading, I'm Loving, I'm Craving . . . ing

 I'm Reading . . .

Two lovely readers recommended this Young Adult Novel and so far it's really good!

I try to look my best every day (even when I feel icky) and this photo makes me want to continue to look fashion forward even at 30 weeks pregnant!

I may be pregnant but I'm not dead :-) I miss my glasses of bubbly but I know it will be worth it in two months. Until then, have a drink for me!

Anthropologie Fall 2012

Shopping in an Anthropologie store transports me into another world filled with whimsy and magic.

For me, it's not the place to purchase wardrobe staples but fantastic statement pieces.

Here are my top picks for Fall: (Links below)

1. I love a unique take on the LBD. This Black Lace Dress will be so versatile for Fall and Winter. Wear it to a wedding, holiday party or pair it with a cute cardigan and flats for date night. It's a great statement without outshining the rest of the room.

2. Anthropologie makes some killer shoes like these colorblock snakeskin pumps - they could jazz up the most basic outfit!

3. Having lived in New York I'm a huge fan of a statement winter coat. It's something people see you in half the year and is totally worth the investment.

4. A girly sweater is the perfect weekend wardrobe for Fall. Pair yours with a pattern shirt and jeans for a playful look.

5. Jewelry can make an outfit and is a great way to invest a small budget into revamping a wardrobe. These fish earrings would work day or night and are sure to reel in complements.

6. What girl doesn't like a big of glitter. This every day handbag has a pop of sparkle making it a fun fall piece.

7. As mentioned yesterday burgundy is the "it" color for Fall. Anthro's done a fantastic job pairing a bold color with a feminine peasant blouse

8. The poncho is still hot and nothing looks more pulled together than a casual cape for weekend wear.

9. Yes, I said I don't buy basics from Anthropologie but my one exception is jeans. They carry a huge variety of top brands including my favorite AG (just love the fit and feel). The AG Leggings are a MUST for Fall and look amazing with ballet flats for boots.

Ann Taylor Fall 2012

Over the next few weeks I want to highlight some of my favorite shops and their Fall 2012 lines.

I love the change of seasons and finding pieces to enhance your current closet yet showcase current trends can be a challenge.

I'm starting with Ann Taylor. Over the past couple of years this brand has really reinvented itself. I find it a great place to get clothing basics and statement shoes and accessories.

This Fall we're seeing a lot of oversized sweaters and blouses. This gray cowl neck sweater or cobalt blue silky blouse would be perfect with faux leather pants. (Note these pants are a straight leg which flatters almost every figure opposed to a skinny leg.) This look is very similar to the Vince brand but at a lower price point. Ann Taylor also does office chic very well. This flirty veiled lace skirt can go from work (paired with a button down and blazer) to play (think white tshirt and leather coat) super easily. A great fitting dress is a closet staple - both this black crepe bow dress or drape neck dress would be a good choice.

I love having fun with accessories. If you can't afford new clothes buy one or two bold accessories to get you thru fall. Both this statement necklace and silk bow scarf would jazz up the most basic outfit. Burgundy is THE color for Fall and I'm crushing over this crossbody bag. From funky spotted booties to formal satin bow heels to a color blocked stacked pump Ann Taylor makes some killer shoes. It can be hard to choose a favorite so take a good inventory of your current shoes before shopping.

Have you shopped Ann Taylor before? Would you now after reading this post? Leave a comment, I would love to hear your thoughts.

Splurge vs. Steal: Animal Head Bracelets

Stacked bangles are all the rage this Fall. A great statement bangle is the animal head - it can be paired with other simple bracelets or a chunky watch.

Here are three versions at different price points.

1. Charm and Chain's black Elephant Head Bangle is a splurge at $170 - I do love the gold and black color combo.

2. J.Crew has several animals to choose from but I'm loving this Peacock Bracelet. At $98 it isn't a steal but it is less pricey than other versions.

3. Hive & Honey's Elephant Head Bangle comes in at $32. While the cream color isn't my ideal I do love the turquoise and crystal accents - the price is also perfect!

Is this a trend you would try? Leave a comment and enjoy your weekend!

Weekend Style: Day to Night

 Happy Friday everyone!

I recently came across this Alexander Wang Bag and am loving it's rich texture, shape and versatility. I think it would make a great weekend bag wearing it to a day time brunch or cocktails with the girls.

Here's how I would style it day to night.

There are Saturday mornings where I don't want to primp yet still need to look cute for a brunch or shopping outing. Throwing on this long stripe T by Velvet  and pairing it with dark colored jeans from Old Navy (only $30!) creates a polished look. Add a pair of comfortable ballet flats ($70), a simple necklace ($26) and a fedora ($16) for the complete look.

A rocker chic look is the perfect outfit for hitting the newest restaurant or bar. It's sophisticated yet doesn't try too hard. Pair this ASOS faux leather sleeved top with JBrand Skinny Jeans (don't you love the front slits). I'm all about making a statement with shoes and these studded pumps don't disappoint.  It's easy to find statement jewelry at affordable prices - this necklace from Bauble Bar retails at $42 and the Forever 21 Ring is only $6!

What are your weekend plans?

September/Birthday Wish List

I love September - not only does it signal the start of Fall but it's also my Birthday month.

My wish list for September revolves around "wants" for an updated Fall wardrobe and to prepare myself for motherhood. (All links below.)

1. Have you discovered May Books? For around $20 you can design a personalized notebook or calendar. I would love a monogrammed version with lined pages to keep baby notes in.

2. Just because temperatures are cooling off doesn't mean you can't still wear color. I'm loving this silk tunic in hot pink - perfect for after Baby H's arrival but before I lose my middle section.

3. Slip on shoes are so easy and comfortable. Sea-foam is one of my favorite colors and these Frye Suede Loafers are a perfect Fall update.

4. A neutral pair of low heeled booties go with jeans or a dress - I like the style of these by DV Dolce Vita

5. Surprisingly I do not own a chocolate brown leather handbag - what I consider a Fall staple. I have a small purse obsession and would love to add this Tory Burch Tote to my collection.

6. When I saw this fleece bomber jacket I knew I wanted it. It's stylishly cut and comfortable - I know I could throw it on with jeans and be a cute mom on-the-go. Plus the fabric can be washed - a must for a new mom!

7. Leather tassels are everywhere. I'm craving this $20 version to clip onto handbags or use as a key chain.

8. The Fall line by Vince is unreal. This over-sized sweater makes me wish 50 degree temperatures were here right now!

9. My Kate Spade Wallet was stolen (ewwww) about six months ago. Since then I've wanted to replace it with a Louis Vuitton version. I'm not too particular about the shape as long as it's light weight - I do love the brown on brown check pattern.

10. & 11. With the arrival of Baby H., Mr. H. and I want to upgrade to a nice camera to capture all the magical moments. I've done my research and prefer the Canon EOS Rebel T3 and can't wait to pair it with a black sequin camera strap

What do you want to purchase this month? Leave a comment.

Lately In Photos

I hope everyone had a lovely Labor Day Weekend. Mr. H. and I traveled to Dallas to see friends and family and attend a baby shower in our honor.

Saturday marked the start of my 29th week!

My wonderful high school girlfriends treated me to a much needed spa day.

As i grew up in Dallas I love to try new places - Drip Coffee is a recent fave. (SO much better than Starbucks!)

And of course I have to stop by some old favorites like JD's Chippery!

Our baby shower was hosted by a dear family friend and couldn't have been more perfect!

Mr. H. and I can't wait to meet our little one. (Did I tell you we're not finding out the gender?!)

Sunday we enjoyed an intimate dinner with family and close friends. Don't you love the place settings?

A bit of nostalgia - a painting done by my mom. A view from my first NYC apartment. (A similar version will hang in the nursery.)

I hope you had a fabulous long weekend.
